Pease Country Home

The style of this home is low country, however it sits on a 400 foot cliff with an incredible view. The owner wanted a lot of natural light and this home sits in the treetops. It was a challenge to build the home to to the site and the amount of steel that needed to be used to reinforce the elevated main level on the rear end of the home.

The windows are stained wood. The floors are made up of reclaimed white oak and there are marble tops and tiles in the master suite. The office is located off the wet bar area in the kitchen. The fireplace is limestone and they have stained wood beams and trim on the exterior. This home also features a hallway that looks like an old enclosed dog trot and an eat-in breakfast nook off the den with an amazing view.

Smith Lake Retreat

Cotton Construction completed this amazing lakeside retreat on Smith Lake in the summer of 2015. Since completion, the project has gained national attention and even won the HGTV Lakeside Retreat Contest. This one of a kind home was the result of a great collaboration between the architect, designer, owner, and contractor. The home has also been featured in Nashville Interiors and several other regional publications. But more important than awards or magazine features, the home owners love the house and they are living their dream at Smith Lake.

Roxbury Family Home

Cotton Construction completed this completely custom build in the heart of Homewood. Built from the ground up, every stone on the exterior of this home was hand chiseled to fit perfectly. The unique home front includes two entrances and a large porch that features one of the two custom fireplaces in the home. To complete the exterior all of the cedar wood accents were custom stained with a new stain color that we created. The stain is now called Roxbury- named after this project.

Inside, this home features all of the amenities that a growing family would need. Custom cabinetry throughout provides plenty of storage and hide-away space, while the luxurious master bedroom and bath provide a much needed escape. The kitchen serves as the focal point of the first floor with two-inch thick Italian marble countertops and a large custom hood over the cooking area built by Cotton Woodworks.

Modern Escape

Located just two miles from a major interstate and only 10 minutes from one of Birmingham’s biggest shopping centers, this project is a modern escape set in a hidden wooded section of the Trillium sub-division. When the client first approached Cotton Construction, they knew they wanted the exterior of the home to feel like a cabin from the outside, but include all of the modern amenities on the inside. We carried the cabin feel throughout the home with reclaimed wood ceilings and beams, but added touches of luxury throughout to bring the homeowners’ dream to life. With custom cabinetry and bookshelves throughout, this home features more storage space than any other home we have ever built.

Cottage Renovation

This project can only be described as a complete renovation. The old, outdated house was stripped completely down to the structural walls and roof rafters. We then redesigned the entire footprint to expand the kitchen, added a full master suite, and raised the ceilings. Little touches throughout the house such as custom-built cabinetry make it a great home for raising a family with three young boys.

Linwood House

This unique project was the brainchild of two architects who are married and have been designing their dream home together for several years. They designed every detail of the home with careful attention to dimensions and lines. The interior of the home is modern and features clean lines and crisp edges while the exterior maintains the historic charm of the Edgewood neighborhood. One of the biggest challenges in this project was removing the roof and adding a second floor to what was once a one level home.

Kentucky Roots

The owners of this home were exceptional to work with. Both being from Kentucky, they tasked us with finding ways to bring the bluegrass state into this new home. We started with the front doors which were made from reclaimed barn wood that we brought in from Kentucky and continued with small touches throughout the house. Another unique element to this project was the fact that the home owner is 6-8″ tall. In order to make the home comfortable for him, we raised the height of everything in the house. The front doors are 13 feet tall and the cabinets throughout the house are all 40 inches tall. This is their forever home so we took extra effort to plan for the future. We included an elevator shaft that can be used for storage until it is needed and a complete mother-in-law suite over the garage.

Retreat In The Woods

Though this home is in a neighborhood development, the owners love spending time in the woods and enjoying nature and wanted their home to feel like it was miles from anything. To accomplish this, we set the home as far back on the lot as possible where the back of the house could also have a view of the Cahaba River. We built the master suite in the highest corner of the house nestled among the trees so that it feels almost like a tree house when you are in the bedroom. To bring the project together, we used 8″ heart pine as flooring throughout, added custom cabinets in all rooms, built two wood-burning fireplaces and hand crafted the beautiful walnut island top in the kitchen.

The project was fast-paced, completed with speed and accuracy, and focused on creating an environment conducive to parties and large get-togethers.

Mountain Home

The owners of this house approached Cotton with the idea that they wanted to build a mountain style home that would feel like a house you would find in Highlands, NC. Building on the existing moss rock foundation, Cotton added large cedar trusses on the front of the house and created a feeling of openness with the wandering natural stone pathway that spills from the front entrance into the lawn.

The project was so successful that the homeowners recently rehired Cotton to work on the backyard landscaping which included custom fencing, stonework, and the creation of a custom rain barrel collection cistern. The project was recently featured in Birmingham Home & Garden.
